The Government of India has appointed Shri. Sanjay Malhotra as the next Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr. Sanjay Malhotra as the 26th Governor of the RBI. He will take charge on December 11, 2024, succeeding Mr. Shaktikanta Das.
As per Section 8(1)(a) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Act, 1934, the Governor and not more than 4 Deputy Governors of the RBI are appointed by the Central Government to the Central Board of the Bank. The Governor and Deputy Governors hold office for a term not exceeding 5 years, as decided by the Central Government, and are eligible for reappointment.
Mr. Malhotra is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) – Government of India Officer of the 1990 batch from the Rajasthan cadre. He brings significant experience in public finance and policy, and we look forward to his leadership as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) navigates key challenges ahead.
